Recipe – Strawberry Shortcake

6 c. sliced fresh strawberries
1/2 c. sugar
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 t. baking powder
1/2 c. butter
1 beaten egg
2/3 c. milk
1 c. whipping cream, whipped fresh strawberries

Grease 8×1 1/2-inch round baking pan; set aside. Mix sliced berries and 1/4 c. of the sugar; set aside. Mix flour, baking powder, and remaining sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture. Stir just to moisten. Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake in 450º oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 min. Remove from pan. Split into 2 layers. Spoon half of berry mixture and cream over first layer. Top with second layer, remaining berry mixture, and cream. Top with whole berries.
