Got Soap?

Homemade Soap from Amish Country, Ohio

For years I questioned the rational of my grandmother! Why would you save grease and fat and then go through the process of making lye out of wood ash, just to make soap? I couldn’t get over this. While growing up, we always got
soap for birthdays, Christmas presents and sometimes just because. Why
wouldn’t she get me a bike or something cool? 2003 comes and I lose my grandma, she passed away at 88 years old. While removing all her items from the home we found old soap in the basement. This soap had to be 15 years old! I ran upstairs and washed immediately. I couldn’t believe that it lathered, it didn’t smell but it did lather. I realized that day that she taught me a form of art, a special trade that is
necessary to all of us. “Thank you grandma, I love you”.

Without soap we would be sick, without the ability to stop the spread of disease and germs. As a matter of fact in several regions of the world children die at an alarming rate because they don’t have access to a clean environment that soap provides. During the Haitian earthquakes, many were forced to live in tent cities
using contaminated water and cholera spread like crazy. Guess what was missing? You were right, if you said “soap”. Lye soap is one of the greatest inventions that there has ever been. With soap we have reduced the spread of communicable disease and germs by almost 80%. There is no excuse for using anything other than a good old bar of natural lye soap. The things you buy commercially are a combination of chemicals, then a bit of soap and then more chemicals. Liquid body washes are the worst, they can sit on the shelf for years, YEARS! There is nothing that is good for you that can sit on the shelf for years. Here at Amish Country Essentials, we make the best natural soaps. With a rich 250 year family tradition that makes me an 8th generation soap maker. I have been producing soap for over 30 years and you can ask me anything you would like about homemade soap vs. melt & pour “glycerin” soaps, essential oils vs. fragrance oils and anything relevant to skin care.

Tracy and I have been doing this since 2005 as a business, and because of her we are here. Tracy made the decision for us to do this because she saw the need to have a natural skin care company that will not sell out or compromise or core morals and values to bring you real products. We see every day that we are blessed each day. When our customers stop by and share their individual success stories. We thank you all, and appreciate each one of you.

Stop by the store and see Tracy and Shane. Ask them if they’ve “Got Soap?” You might get something special.
